Azubi Africa cloud engineering capstone with getINNOtized
Project overview
event-cloud turns an event-registration workflow based on Microsoft Forms and Excel into a structured REST API. Built as the Azubi Africa cloud engineering capstone with getINNOtized, the project brings registration, identity, and file handling into a single backend. The focus is on making the workflow enforceable through application contracts instead of relying on people to keep shared forms and spreadsheets consistent.
API Gateway exposes the endpoints, Lambda runs the request handlers, and DynamoDB stores events and registrations. Cognito provides the identity layer, with different access needs for organizers and attendees, while S3 handles uploaded files. The infrastructure is defined in Terraform, making environment setup part of the codebase rather than an undocumented sequence of console changes.
The problem to solve
Event registration run on shared forms and spreadsheets breaks down quickly: no validation, no access control, and no clean record of who registered for what. The brief was to replace that workflow with a real API on AWS.
Inside the build
The implementation, from application behaviour to the infrastructure underneath it.
- Expose registration and event endpoints through API Gateway and Lambda
- Store registrations and events in DynamoDB
- Handle uploads through S3 with scoped access
- Secure the API with Cognito so organizers and attendees see different things
- Provision everything with Terraform rather than clicking through the console
What shipped
A complete serverless REST API that replaces the manual workflow, provisioned entirely from code and delivered as a capstone for the Azubi Africa cloud engineering program.
